BACK PAIN AFTER PREGNANCY

Your back is a weaker version of itself following pregnancy and has an increased susceptibility to injury, yet it has a lot of demands placed upon it caring for a new baby.

You are particularly vulnerable to back strain in the first 3 months following the birth of your new baby.

This is because your abdominal and pelvic muscles are weaker as a result of pregnancy and birth. Your spine and pelvis can have often have been suffering under the pressure of the increased weight and significant postural changes of pregnancy leading to pain and instability from the joints of the spine and pelvis. This may be complicated if you had existing problems in the spine.

It is unfortunately all too common for mothers to be in a routine of looking after their family and home without thinking about obtaining a full recovery for their back and carrying on with reckless abandon! until the situation becomes very bad with low back pain.

Chiropractors are well positioned to help.
